वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥
Vakra-Tunndda Maha-Kaaya Suurya-Kotti Samaprabha |
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva-Kaaryessu Sarvadaa |

In Indian culture it is considered auspicious to start any new work, with the blessings of Lord Ganesha. He who has a mighty body and the lustre of a thousand suns, removes any hurdles that we may otherwise face. And every year we bring him home with much reverence so his blessings spread like sweet fragrance in our homes and lives. So here is a little eco-friendly craft to help your kids make their own Ganesha.
Age group- 5yrs plus
You will need:
Paper
Pencil
Colour Pencils
Gum
Pulses - Green, Yellow, brown. 1 tsp each
Some decorative like stars or glitter for jewellery.

Step 1: Trace or draw a picture of your favourite Ganesha avatar.

Step 2: Colour it.

Step 3: Now decorate it with your choice of pulses. We chose green for the mukut. Yellow for the laddoos. Brown for the trunk and ears.

Step 4: Add glitter or stars to highlight the jewellery.

Your Ganesha is ready to adorn your wall.

Benefits: This craft looks really simple. But it is a great activity to develop the motor skills of your kids. It needs concentration hence patience is a great side-effect of this. And thinking creatively - the alternate use of the ingredients like pulses for decoration- encourages your kids to think out of the box.

Happy Ganesh Chathurthi!
