ramoji film city, travel with kids, travel ideas, movie lovers, the universal studio of India

A Filmy Duniya at Nizam’s City

In a country where entertainment is a way of life, a tour to the spectacular land of million dreams is a perfect weekend getaway. Welcome to Ramoji Film City (RFC), certified as the World’s Largest Film Studio Complex by the Guinness Book of World Records. This thematic holiday destination in Hyderabad spreads over 1666 acres in the city outskirts and offers a full day tour and an overwhelming experience to children and adults alike.

Ramoji Film city is undoubtedly a fascinating experience. This film city offers a wide range of fun activities, shooting locations, entertainment, live shows, thematic fountains, garden, and film sets. It will be unbelievable to see those familiar houses and streets that impressed us in movies, which otherwise we thought were some attractive places abroad!

I decided to elope to this reel world from the real. It is a whole day affair and I reached this fascinating destination around 9 am. We can book our tickets online too and take a package suitable for us. I picked up the Carnival Star Experience package and was ready to have the experience like a Star VIP. The RFC team gives us a royal welcome at their Premium Lounge with a souvenir chocolate box, a bottle of water, tetra Pak juice and a redemption coupon which can be redeemed at any of the RFC stores inside.

Once through the entry ticket procedure, everyone rushes to the red vintage style air-conditioned bus which takes the cinema lovers through a guided tour along the sprawling acres of the film city. I managed to grab a good spot to sit and got set to enjoy. The guide would point out to different landmarks where iconic scenes of popular films were shot. It is truly exciting to pass through the replicas of Hawa Mahal, Mughal Gardens, Japanese Garden, London Street, Hollywood signage, airport, railway station, Central Jail and the winding corridors and village setups. The guide would also name the popular movies shot at those locations such as Dilwale, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Chennai express etc., and we get transformed into the memories of watching them at the theatres.

a delight to every movie lover. The bus then dropped us to the sets of the larger-than-life movie "Bahubali", and I was told that this is the recent addition to RFC, and it has multiplied the number of tourists visiting RFC. The fictional kingdom of Mahashmati is still retained for the visitors to experience behind-the-scene ideas and creativity that has gone into this blockbuster. It just doesn’t get over clicking pictures of the majestic throne and the remnants of the sets. One cannot stop appreciating the efforts that have gone into filmmaking.

Then we entered Eureka where we watched entertainment shows like the Spirit of Ramoji, Fort Frontier Wild West Stunt show, Dadajinn Live TV show and Light Camera Action which is Hollywood Blacklight Spectacular show.

Later we all were asked to break for lunch. It was a buffet lunch in an A/C restaurant. Post lunch we visited Ramoji Movie Magic. We also got an express entry here and it has two attractions – Action theatre and Space Yatra. Watching the making of a stunt sequence, earthquake tremors, acoustic effects and many more are a delight to every movie lover.

Fundustan is a children’s play area in RFC and kids would never want to leave that place. There are some rides like Ranger, Superjet, breakdance, Coaster, Carousel and Frisbee. It is so much fun out here and is a full "paisa-vasool" weekend getaway.

The visit to EcoZone, Bird Park make the entire journey more colourful and the when the entire film city gets illuminated in the evening, watching the film city in the dazzling lights left me aghast. There is a spectacular carnival parade in the evening, and it is a must to watch. Also, the Restaurants and stay facilities available inside RFC provides a great option for tourists to extend their trip.

A comprehensive set-up under one roof for numerous serials and movies in various languages, RFC is undoubtfully a cine-magical experience where the crowd shares the same secret hope to get a glimpse of their favourite actor! When we end the tour, we would want to watch all those movies again, this time more carefully to identify if they are shot at real places or at the lavish RFC. We would also be grateful to the founder Ramoji Rao for opening this marvellous place to the public. Though our legs would tire, our admiration and appreciation to all those creative heads of the cine world will grow a thousand folds! Cinema would mean more than an actor to you; much more than a flop or blockbuster.

So, what are you waiting for! It is time to plan a visit to the Universal Studios of our country – Ramoji Film City, with family and kids.

Have great fun.
