And all my mother came into mine eyes and gave me up to tears - William Shakespeare

My finger pointed right at you
You, your upbringing and everything else you seemed so proud of
Why I even called your kid ‘that ugly little brat’
Then when I was sure I had your ears I spoke behind your back
I had an opinion, on everything you had given your blood and body for
The way your kid spoke or did not
The way she ate or did not
The way he played or did not
The way she behaved or did not
For her childlike behaviour
For her childlike tantrums
For her childlike demands
For her childlike affection
In the cinema hall I wanted you to shush his voice
In the aeroplane I wanted you to tie up her legs and measure them up in size
In the fine-dine restaurant I wanted you to make him invisible
For my party, I wished you’d leave her home if possible
I saw your indulgence as weakness
I saw your affection as meekness
Worst
I saw their loud cheers, clapping hands
Fearless minds and inquiring rants
As your failure, failure, failure
How could you let them breath
Let them blossom
Let them be happy
Let them be alive?
How dare you I thought?
And then I became a mother…
Happy Mother’s Day.

Beautiful. So true. No one can understand what it means to be a Mother till you became one.
