Review: Rain School is a beautifully illustrated book that brings the rustic beauty of Chad, Africa alive. It narrates the story of an eager Thomas, who follows the older children to school, hoping to get a notebook, pencils and some lessons. But when he arrives at the schoolyard, he finds the school building missing. However, there is a teacher and hope. “We will build our school,” she says. “This is the first lesson.”

In Rain School, through Thomas we experience the pain and joy of millions of kids who long for education. As is summed up by the author himself –' Come September, school will start over. Thomas will be a big brother then, leading the children on their first day to school. They will all stand in front of their smiling teachers, ready to build their school again.'

What my twins learnt and loved: The twins Aaditia & Ishani love Rain School’s cover image – of kids holding books and running in the rain. Getting a peak into a school in the far away land of Africa, was another lovely learning. They also observed the similarities and differences in Indian and African cultures – like dresses, hair styles and schools. And yes, we have discussed how education is really important, as is hope.
