Train rides served crispy hot in India-KFC meal available on Indian Railways

The train rides across India just got hot, crispy and meatier too. IRCTC and KFC have joined hands to launch a delivery system for food lovers on Indian Trains. Starting 20th July, under the e-catering service initiative, you can book a KFC meal while booking a ticket through Indian Railways website.

The service is in its nascent stage and as of now will be available only on the trains that lack pantry service. 12 trains passing through New Delhi railway station have already extended this facility to the passengers. It will subsequently be extended to other stations like Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

According to media reports “Consumers will have to visit the IRCTC website or call on 18001034139 (Toll Free) to place their order. A password will then be sent by KFC to the consumer’s mobile phone which will have to be mentioned at the time of delivery,”. Truly food on the wheels here.

Does this also mean that we will have to do without the famous khulad (clay cups) tea and coffee also very soon? Yes I am sure other food and coffee chains will be hopping on sooner than later. Personally I think I will miss the khulads. Because what will a typical Indian railway journey through the luscious green sugarcane or paddy fields feel like with a Starbucks coffee in your hand? Also the hurriedly cooked and packed poori bhaaji by mummyjis might get neglected now.

But then buckets full of chicken can’t be neglected either. Can they?
