Kufri with kids

Kufri Fun World is an Entertainment Park at 9000ft.

I was raised in this quaint little village of Kufri, a major tourist hub in Himachal today. There are Apple Orchards, an Army Cant, a Catering College and some awesome Resorts in Kufri, H.P., India. And to my surprise Entertainment parks or Fun Ride Parks are doing brisk business too. Every time I visited my parent’s house I would hear about their popularity and wonder who would come all the way to the hills and end up in amusement parks. And then I had my twins. And Kufri Fun World at 9000ft became a must-visit, on every trip.

KetchupMoms Rating – 3/5

It is a short but fun zip-line for the adults, but is an awesome experience for everyone.

What it has to offer:

Highest Go-Kart Track: At 9000ft, from sea level enjoy a spin around the highest go-kart track in the world at Kufri Fun World. This can be enjoyed by elder teenagers and of course adults. The people at the park are very concerned about the safety and hence double check with you for pregnancy and other physical conditions that are not suitable for it. And zipping under the mountain sun on the top of a hill is quite thrilling.

Zip-Lining: It is a short but fun zip-line for the adults, but is an awesome experience for everyone. But for the kids this is a beautiful and thrilling zip. My twins wanted to do it again and again. But then there were so many more rides to enjoy.

Jungle Gym and Obstacle-course: Well there is one for the smaller kids, that has rope-climbing, swing-walking and net-climbing with complete safety gears. I swear, I have to literally pick and take my kids away from this part. They love it. And if you want to put at test your physical fitness a la’ Roadies style, there is an awesome obstacle course in-between the Deodar Trees. Don’t worry you have safety gear in place and very able guides guiding you throughout.

Merry-go-round: Now there is a smaller version right next to the food area for 5+ kids. And a real hit with them. But on top of the Mahasu Hill, is the bigger one with breath-taking view of the hills. The breeze in your face just adds to the romance. No kids below 12 are not allowed on this.

There are tons of other fun rides from Helicopter ride, Boat ride, train-ride, Columbus Ship, the popular Frog-train and even a Castle Bouncy. So you can’t help but spend an entire 3-4 hours here.

Magic Show: This one is a latest addition and trust me the tricks are fun and the Magician a real performer. Go for it. It is not your dime a dozen magicians that enthralling you at birthday parties. Here is a man who knows his art, and performs like the Amitabh Bachchan of it.

Food: Their food counter serves Chinese & Indian snacks and meals. Completely Indianised and full Paisa-vasool. And the rates our pretty nominal. If you love Maggi hill-style well you can have your fill of that here too. Our favourites are the pakoras, masala chai, noodles and more.

The staff is friendly and they are very careful about your safety.

Approach: You can drive up to the property from the popular hills station Shimla, so don’t listen to the pony-people who try to stop you or divert you to other places, where they probably get too much commission. Inside the property of course you have to walk up and down hill.

How to reach: Kufri is a small hamlet at some 45-60 minutes distance from Shimla town. One can choose to check in to a resort or a hotel nearby. Or stay over at Shimla and make a day-trip to this village.

Closest Airport: Is in Jubberhati, some 38 kms from Kufri and 22 kms from Shimla.

Closest Railway: Shimla Railway Station, 16 kms from Kufri. In fact the station lies on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The close to 5 hour train ride from Kalka to Shimla on a narrow gauge with unlimited no. of tunnels, is one of the most picturesque train ride.

Drive in time from Shimla: Depends heavily on the season and weather conditions. On an average it takes 45-60 minutes.

Drive in time for Chandigarh: 3-4 hours. Although with the highway-widening work you can get stuck in traffic jams, sometimes. But the Drive overall is beautiful with multiple eating joints options.

Drive in time for Delhi: We suggest you start early if you are heading on a long weekend. Else it takes around 8-9 hours with multiple stop-over options. We suggest you break your journey just before Chandigarh at Nik Bakers or Hadirams at Dera Bassi. And then take another break between Chandigarh and Shimla at Barog

Watch Out: Kufri Fun World is a fun place to spend the day. The staff is friendly and they are very careful about your safety. However don’t expect the infrastructure and services of a ride-park in Delhi or Singapore. And this would be true for all the Amusement parks in the vicinity of Kufri. So stay safe. And have fun.
