Movie Review- Kung Fu Panda 3 is Fun & Kid-friendly

Is it fun? Yes. ‘Mummy, the bad guy was defeated’ my son said as the Kung Fu Panda 3 end credits rolled onto the screen. This is how he reacts after we finish reading a good storybook; Three Little Pigs, The Giving Tree etc. He was taking something positive back home and that is what a good children’s film should do. Right?

Is it scary? No. If you remember my review of ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, it clearly stated how wonderful the entire theme of friendship was. Yet I advised kids below 8 to completely avoid it as it had some traumatic and terrifying scenes. In comparison, Kung Fu Panda 3 is more like Shrek. It has its fair share of fights but everything is presented in such a light manner, that it’s not hard on kids. Here are some positive reasons to enjoy this film with your family and kids:

When someone believes in you it can hep you recognize your own potential. Those who have been following the Kung Fu series are well aware of how Po adopted as a cub by Mr Ping inches closer to becoming The Great Warrior. In this movie Po needs to rise from a Kung Fu student to the master. And although he might not be aware of his own strengths, other’s belief in him keeps him going. And in the end, as he was beating the spirit warrior Kai, Po finds the hero, the warrior inside him, in every possible way.

We can all learn something new: When Master Shifu passes the baton of teaching Kung Fu onto Po, he almost collapses. After all what can he teach the furious five gang, each a master of Kung Fu? But when he reaches Panda Land and learns to do simple Panda tricks and duties he understands Master Shifu’s golden words ‘We all can learn something new’. This is the mantra that helps him build his Panda Army against Kai and his green jade warriors.

We all need to find our Chi or positive energy to win: In Kung Fu Panda 3, this dumpling-loving Panda meets his biological father and his worst fear comes true. He was not eating to his potential, it seems. Lol. While these funny realisations happen to Po, he also discovers his Chi. The positive and healing energy that we all have inside us but we fail to look for it. And it is so strong that it destroys all evil. At least in the movie.

Family love and support can rollback any disaster: Po is lucky to find his biological father and is loved by his adoptive father equally. And while he shoulders the responsibility of protecting them and his entire Panda Clan, it is the love of his family that ultimately rescues him. Yes in Kung Fu Panda 3, family is supreme, loving and loveable. Just when you think the evil Kai is close to destroying Po, the family comes together and helps Po break free.

Like its previous two parts, Kung Fu Panda 3 is fun, light and very entertaining. The characters are warm, dialogues sharp and the story positive. Of course if u do find Tom & Jerry disturbingly violent and Masha destructive, you may find some reasons to not make your kids watch Kung Fu Panda 3. As for me I have grown up on a healthy diet of the former and I adore the latter.

Best enjoyed with: A large bag of flavoured popcorns.

What a great review! I have been thinking of taking my children. I wasn't sure about the adoption theme, but it sounds like the message is very positive about promoting families of all kinds. Cheers!

We loved the movie Kung Fu Panda very much. I like your review in the way you have drawn inferences from the movie which are applicable to our regular lives where we are not actually dragon warriors but fight some or the other battles nonetheless.
