The Unique Travel Journal Ideas for Kids

Back in the 80's, Indian kids' best holiday memories were about their Naani or maternal grandma's house. Guest appearances were made successfully by fathers and it is was upto the cousins and aunties to keep the kids entertained. The same monuments, lakes, temples were visited again and again, with the variation of picnic food and mode of transport. But today's high-flying generation needs a travel journal, for their parents are sold on the Family Vacation idea.

Why travel Journals:

My twins explored Singapore and probably forgot about it quickly, at the age of 6 months, I don't really blame them, ha ha. Their father initiated the travel from India and it was a super smooth holiday. I remember preserving their first boarding passes and putting some pictures together to start a Travel Journal for them. Almost 5 years and 6 months and family vacations across Asia, America and more the journal is still that, an idea. So I suggest you learn from my mistakes and get a journal for your little ones to preserve memories forever. Else you can also opt for some interactive world maps to help them track their footsteps.

Heart Marks the Spot Pillow: This is such a fun and unique idea, that your kids will thank you for this. In-fact mom and designer Heather Shaw conceptualised it for her map-loving son. A threaded needle and two hand-printed buttons allow you to sew a heart or a star over the places you have visited.

1) Nature Log Kids by Deanna Brandt (Spiral bound Nature Journal): If your kids are heading for a Nature Holiday, well this will be a fun travel companion. The journal has some interesting trivia about nature, birds and animals. They can write about and draw the animals and birds they spot. Stick photographs and even preserve nature's gifts in-between the pages. At $8 for a spiral bound version it makes for a great return gifts for birthday parties too.

2: Kids Travel Journal, Disney edition by Jeff Secheller : This one is especially crafted for Disney lovers. Apart from the text-prompts, plenty of writing space is provided. But what makes it special for Disney Fans is the passport inside, that you can get stamped at the parks. Pages are provided to get Disney character's autographs too. And there is an area provided to even mark the Disney Rides. This one is for the kids who love to make their own roads I say.

3) My Car Trip Mini Journal by Diana Zourelias: This is a one-stop kid's activity book that doubles up as a Mini Journal. When not busy soaking in the rolling fields and lakes, the kids can keep themselves entertained in the car, with this. It has pages to write on - even has prompts like 'We are on a Road-trip to...", "I wish we were going to..." and "Why". There are specific places for the kids to post their pictures. They can colour and paste and draw. All this for less than $2. And incase you need additional smart ideas to keep the kids busy on that car road, try our favourite Travelling Button  Tic Tac Toe, with magnets. Did I add, its awesome!

4) My Travel Journal (Lonely Planet Kids): This is beautiful scrapbook in making. A bright neon cover, fun illustrations, writing prompts, colouring-pages and more this is a boredom-buster for kids at around $8-$9. They can design collages, paste pictures, draw doodles, colour and make notes throughout their journey. It is a light and handy, travel journal and a great gift for your kids, just before you set out on a trip.

5) Heart Marks the Spot Pillow: This is such a fun and unique idea, that your kids will thank you for this. In-fact mom and designer Heather Shaw conceptualised it for her map-loving son. A threaded needle and two hand-printed buttons allow you to sew a heart or a star over the places you have visited. Of course you will have to assist them a little. But it will make for  a great memorabilia at the price of $ 56.

Just make a note, add a photo and the app will stamp your location, date, time, weather and even your step count.

6) Discovery Map Scratch off World:  This is a perfect introduction of the World Map to the kids. It is a big-size, stylish scratch map, the kids can use to chronicle their travel journey. It is delivered (not yet to India though, you can pick it up when travelling), in a tube with all necessary tools including a coin to scratch, stickers and traveller's attraction information like -Capitals, tourist centres, national parks, deserts and more. In a tube you can pick it up for $30. The framed version is almost thrice the price of this one.

7) Day One 2 App: This one is for the elder kids and teenagers. this makes journaling a walk in the park. Just make a note, add a photo and the app will stamp your location, date, time, weather and even your step count. Yes add it as a travel healthy app to your list. Just download it from your I Tunes and your travel is sorted and filed.

So your bags are packed hopefully with one of these awesome travel essentials, what next then? An awesome destination to travel to? Well this is what you can do in Singapore, Hua Hin and Chandigarh with kids. For more travel updates, reviews and ideas, keep coming back. We love traveling as a family though most of the memories are lost after a few months. I have started using creating travel photo books though I do like your idea of a travel journal too.
