10 reasons my kids have been to Singapore three times already

My twins think a trip back from school could end up in Singapore. The innocent kids don’t know countries, distance or time change yet. But their reference to Singapore in all their little talks, makes my house help giggle with glee. ‘They want to take a bath only in Singapore now’ he says. It reminds me of my kids chuckling at the sight of mini hand-sensors at the door of ‘Kid Toilets’ (almost in all public places there). And voila when its door opened at their touch, they were mesmerised, feeling special. That ‘Mishka Mushka Mickey Mouse Clubhouse’ type energy ran through them, almost. It says a lot about Singapore’s people and its government to think that kid-clear.

Yes, if you are planning that trip with your kids, looking for a bit of the beaches, a bit of the parks, safety, hygiene and lots of good food and shopping, the lion kingdom is for you. Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Singhapur’, Singapore makes you purr with excitement, thrills you with touristy things and chases your thoughts for a long time, thereafter.

Coming back to the twins Singapore obsession. It is their third trip and here are the top ten reasons they love Singapore.

1) Sentosa : Port of Lost Wonder
A swimming costume, a pirate ship with water slides, tumbling baskets, sunshine and some good food. Try leaving the place before 4 hours. If you succeed, hit the beach, reach early to get the best seat at the Dolphin Show, hover around in the Butterfly Garden etc. The only way to reach Sentosa though has to be the cable ride, it gives you a beautiful view of the land and water. Also, there is a 10% discount, depending on which airlines carried you into Singapore.

2) Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park

sonu imagesonu imageFeeding the Giraffes, Tram Rides, Carousel, Walk by the Lake, Animal Shows, Elephant Rides and more. It’s an animal kingdom you want to retire in. The Jurong Bird Park, needs another dedicated day and reload of energy. Birdz of play, will make your kids’ day and the highest man-made waterfall makes the visit all the more special.

3) Underwater World
The colourful strange things they have heard about in their nursery rhymes, comes alive and how. The larger than life display with Stingray, White Whales, Swordfish and a lot more, makes the visit worth it. The walk through the water tunnel is a must and the Jelly Fish Tank will shock hopefully within safe limits.

4) Gardens By The Bay
A glittering landmark at night, the different domes enchant you with the man-made Cloud-Forest, made more inviting by the mysterious mist. The best of nature is artfully displayed in the Flower Dome. A walk through the Vertical Gardens and the Supertree Grove is an experience the kids won’t forget. Avoid on a weekend.

5) Orchard Road
No it’s not just the shopping, it’s the atmosphere. People carelessly flirting with different brands while treating themselves to the best Sit-Down Restaurants or Food Courts (Ion Mall’s Food Court is not to be missed), linger around to smile at strangers or just get awed by the Street-Performers. Even sitting around and watching the Singapore traffic go by is enjoyable here.

6) Harbourfront

It’s where Singapore’s biggest Retail and Lifestyle destination ‘Vivocity’ is. It is also from where your Cable Ride starts, either directly to Sentosa or with a detour to ‘Faber Mountains’ (totally worth it). Also you can just walk across to Sentosa or catch a train. The mall itself has a toy train for the kids and two different play areas to keep them thrilled.

7) Food
The Singapore food consists of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and Western Cuisines. No wonder then my kids gorged on yummy Satays (Chicken Lollipops as they called them), Sweet Buns, Fried Rice, Kaya Butter and Toast, Sweet Honey Chicken and some awesome mild flavoured Fish. Food is typically mild in taste and Food Malls bring you hawkers delight in a safe and clean environment.

8) Shopping
Your Credit Card is the limit. Period. From the best brands to some great bargain counters it is diversity at its best. Have always found some great stuff, especially for girls at the Vivocity.

9) Public Transport
Anyone under 7, can get a free MRT card made at the Airport Metro counter. Enjoy the free rides thereafter. Singapore is well connected through MRT and it makes a great way to explore the city. Hop into a Taxi, only when you are taking a trip to places like the Zoo because the Train route could be really long (like an hour).

10) Child Friendly
Special Kid-Toilets in all Public Places, Children Play Areas in all Malls, Multiple Parks, easy access to all Landmarks, Multi-Cuisine Food Malls, lots off open areas, MRT connectivity across town. Phew, what else can a parent ask for???

I totally agree with your point of view; when I have children, I'll be teaching them by bringing them around the world.

Sierra@TMWY Posted on Feb 01, 2016

Singapore is great and I loved my time there! I'd definitely add hiking in the rainforest and seeing the monkeys. I wasn't a child, but it's incredible to see the mom/baby monkeys together.

Singapore is on my bucket list. Do you know what Singhapur means?

Lovely post, I can understand why your kids love Singapore so much, it is a lovely place after all! I always like reading posts about people taking their kids travelling. Stories are always different if you translate them through their eyes. Trees are bigger, oceans are bluer and memories often last a lifetime!
